Albay Congressman Joey Salceda (2nd District) doubted the promise of then Presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos during the campaign to bring down the price of rice to Php 20 per kilo.
“Impossible. You kill the livelihood of 3.6 million rice farmers”, Salceda opined.
He said the possibility may occur if there are no taxes.
Without taxes, rice can be imported from Vietnam, but “killing” the 3.6 million rice farmers.
Salceda said Marcos might have been misquoted.
But, there were no media reports that Marcos corrected himself and had tolerated the P20/ kilo campaign to stick on until his still unofficial victory.
