Unauthorized medicines, supposed “cure” for Covid 19, seized in Naga City, Camarines Sur; woman suspect arrested

Authorities in Naga City, Camarines Sur, seized questionable drugs supposed to be “cure” for Covid 19.

In a buy bust operation, the Crime Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Naga City confiscated unauthorized drugs, claimed as anti-covid, in Barangay San Francisco.

20 boxes of Chinese traditional medicine of Lianhua Qingwen Jiaonang granule and 200 Ivermectin capsules were seized from suspect Cecilia Catacutan, inside the Administrative Office of Centro Square Building at Barangay San Francisco on July 23, 2021.

The seized drugs are worth P16,000 that were taken from the 27- year old woman suspect, who is also working as secretary of the building.

The first “test buy” transaction via online was done with a certain Joel Yao, the boss of the lady suspect, whom details of the negotiation were given to her.

When the buy bust was carried out, Yao was not in the vicinity, but only the lady suspect.

In a related development, the Food and Drug Administration-Bicol, said the FDA has not issued any Compassionate Special Permit on any of the seized drugs, and no license to sell health products was issued to the business firm.

Violations of FDA Act of 2009 shall be charged on the lady suspect, but there is no report from CIDG if they will charge Yao of any involvement.
