Tropical Storm “Queenie” accelerates west southwestward while maintaining its strength

Tropical Storm “Queenie"

The tropical depression off eastern Mindanao sighted a few days ago has now turned into a tropical storm.

Named Tropical Storm “QUEENIE”, its center was estimated based on all available data at 695 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or 755 km East of Davao City (7.0°N, 132.5°E).

Its Intensity was described as “Maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 80 km/h, and central pressure of 1000 hPa.”

Its present movement was calculated as West southwestward at 25 km/h.

Weather scientists said the extent of the Tropical Cyclone Winds is Strong to gale-force winds extending outwards up to 220 km from the center.

DOST-PAGASA said no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals are currently in effect.
