Incessant rains forced class suspensions in Bicol region

Incessant rains forced class suspensions in various towns in Bicol region on Monday, January 30. The continuous rain  was brought by the shear line, according to state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In a report, Department of Education (DepEd) Bicol information officer Mayflor Marie Jumamil, said that classes were suspended in Province of Masbate both in public and private schools in towns of Palanas, Uson, Cataingan, and Dimasalang

In Sorsogon province, the towns of Gubat, Bulusan, Juban, Casiguran, Sta. Magdalena, Magallanes, Castilla, Matnog, Barcelona, and Bulan also announced class suspension in both public and private schools.  

Jumalil said that the Mapaso Elementary School in Irosin town also canceled classes due to the threat of flooding.

Mayor Ma. Ester Hamor of Sorsogon City also declared class suspension at all levels.

Mark Kevin Arroco of DepEd Bicol information office said they would reschedule the National Achievement Test (NAT) in the affected areas.

Arroco said that the NAT for Grade 12 in three schools in coastal villages in Mercedes town in Camarines Norte was also canceled due to a damaged spillway.

Reports said the areas were inaccessible to the test administrators and students.

In its 8 a.m. advisory, Pagasa Southern Luzon said Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate were experiencing light to moderate rains. Pagasa advised the disaster officials to monitor the weather. INQ

Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture (DA) has recorded P81,107, 222 in losses in the entire Bicol region after it experienced days of non-stop rains.
