New tropical depression sighted east off Mindanao; still outside PAR

Philippine weather scientists sighted a tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) off the eastern board of Mindanao.

This sighting was made public by DOST-PAGASA on noontime of Sunday, October 30, 2022 after Paeng had left the Luzon mainland and hovering over the West Philippine Sea.

The said new tropical depression is located estimated, based on all available data, at 1,250 km East of Northeastern Mindanao (9.0°N, 137.7°E).

Its intensity is at maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 55 km/h, and central pressure of 1004 hPa.

Present movement is West northwestward at 15 km/h.

The extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds is described as “Strong winds extend outwards up to 110 km from the center.”

DOST- PAGASA said that as of Sunday noon, the tropical depression has not entered the PAR, but continues to move westward.

Monitoring on the weather disturbance is ongoing and new updates will be made public at 11 pm Sunday.
