The man once considered as the “doyen” of Sorsogon politics during his political life is gone.
Raul Lee political career started as a village chief of Barangay Sulucan then launched his mayoralty bid against a protégée of a congressman who he soundly defeated from there on took the provincial governorship.
He took the provincial reign for a number of years before passing the baton to his wife Sally and son Robert Rodrigueza Lee.
During his term though not perfect Lee was able to established a political concordat with other political clans that elected his wife Sally as the first city mayor of Sorsogon beating in a hard fought election against a bet sponsored by a congressman.
That time because of political accommodation Sorsogon City was a free zone fitting his wife against the anointed of his on and off political friend.
He was instrumental for the political life of his ambitious supporters that not a few turned their back against him.
During his waning years in politics his son Robert Rodrigueza was also elected governor thereby making a political history.
His sudden death at around 6:30 in the morning while confined at the Sorsogon Provincial Hospital, today, January 13, 2024 was received with disbelief by Sorsoganons. (Bicol Express News)
