Civil society honors Sorsogon Congresswoman Bernadette Escudero

With 129 submitted House bill as principal author and 48 bills as co-author, Sorsogon First Congressional District Representative Maria Bernadette Escudero-Quirante silently walk the path of legislative baptism besting other neophyte members of the 19th Congress as she continues the legislative legacy of her family who represented the district before.

The Escudero-Quirante’s hard work in Congress was noticed by a civil society organization when she was chosen as one of the awardees by RP- Mission and Development Foundation Inc. as a Top Performing Legislator in the 19th Congress of the House of Representatives.

As principal author of 23 national bills focusing on Ecology, Energy, Labor and Employment, Senior Citizens, Veterans affairs, Amendment to the National Internal Revenue Code, Justice, Public  Works and Highways, Banks and Financial Intermediaries, Aquaculture and Fisheries Resources, Basic Education and Culture, Revision of Laws, Natural Resources, Information and Communication, Constitutional Amendment, Micro and Small Enterprise, Forestry, Tourism, Higher and Technical Education, Government Enterprises and Privatization that covers her committee membership.

She is vice-chairperson of the Basic Education and culture committee and Trade and Industry, a member of the majority Agriculture and Food, Nuclear Energy, Persons with Disabilities, Rural Development, Tourism, Women and Gender Equality and Assistant Majority Leader in the rules committee.

The measures covered education, tourism, employment, welfare for senior citizens and veterans aqua and fisheries, sustaining micro and small enterprises local bills filed, and banking and financial intermediaries proof of her understanding of how the country can recover after the pandemic.

The local bills are geared to enhanced accessibility of arterial roads, establishing a multi-species marine hatchery, a high school for the arts, establishing a protected area with a category of a natural park, transitioning the government to e-governance, eco-tourism sites, establishing a college of medicine in a state university, revision of city charter. Similarly she filed commendatory resolutions for the achievements of Filipinos in international events.
