Authorities recently confiscated some 18 pieces of Lauan lumber, not covered by any legal document, that have a total volume of 1,020.99 board feet, or 2.41 cubic meters at Barangay Guruyan, Juban, Sorsogon.

Personnel of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Sorsogon, headed by OIC, PENR Officer Tito R. Migo, and policemen of the Municipal Police Station of Juban seized the pieces of lumber.

The forest products are now under the custody of the Barangay Captain for temporary safekeeping.

It is scheduled to be hauled and transferred soon to PENRO Sorsogon.

Criminal charges will be filed once the offenders are identified for violating Presidential Decree 705, or the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) V, headed by Regional Executive Director (RED) Francisco E. Milla, Jr. has intensified its operations to curb illegal logging and other environmental crimes.

He urged the public to report to the Office any violation of environmental law, and assures that offenders will be prosecuted.
