SORSOGON PROVINCE – The 17 year old Vea Estrellado who bested surfers from La Union and Siargao earned her stripes as member of the country national surfing team was introduced to the surfing waves of Buenavista Gubat at the age of 9 and from then on the challenge of the surfing board rolling and slicing the Pacific waves became a life changer for she is now a tough act in the long and short board surfing ready to compete for an Asian qualifying berth for the Tokyo Olympic in June 2021.
She is due to travel in May to El Salvador for the 2021 ISA World Surfing Games. Vea’s last competitive outing was at the Boulevard in a Borongan, Samar December of 2019 where she placed second to veteran surfer from Siargao and earned 3rd place in the overall points ranking which according to her coach Bidge Villaroya who first taught Estrellado the intricacies of surfing. At her age, the coach said that Vea has not reached her peak. This break at El Salvador, a world stage for surfers is the biggest competition of her career.
With her achievement Governor Chiz Escudero extended full support providing her with surfing equipment and gear which she needs for the surfing event instructing the province tourism office to assist Vea’s needs while training here.
On her part the world class surfer is more focused on her training and in great spirit for many extended their support financially or otherwise for the biggest battle that she will undertake as a surfer.
Estrellado was grateful that the governor supported her passion that ease the hardship of her training.
