The Kurit-Lagting Art Collective, in partnership with Sorsogon Arts Council and Concerned Artists of the Philippines Bicol Chapter (CAP Bicol) through the Sorsogon Initiatives for Culture and Arts Development (SICAD), will hold the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk in the municipality of Gubat, Sorsogon Province, Philippines on August 13, 2022 (Saturday) from 1:00PM to 4:00PM.
“The Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk (https://worldwidephotowalk.com) is a FREE event, and is dubbed as the world’s largest global and social photography event, and has grown immensely in size and popularity since the inaugural walk in 2007. In 2012, we held the first walk in Sorsogon where a lot of photographers of all walks of life and skill levels converged through photography and social community,” said Geri Matthew “Choi” Carretero, art director and co-founder of the Kurit-Lagting Art Collective.
Pitik-Lakat: A Photowalk for Environment and Climate Action
The theme of this year’s walk in Gubat is Pitik-Lakat: A Photowalk for Environment and Climate Action, as we want people to know the significant impacts of climate change, which include changing weather patterns, rising sea level, and more extreme weather events. Thus, it is important for us to document our environment especially the landscapes and communities in the province through the lens to convey our message using photography,” added Jobeth Jerao, a member of the Kurit-Lagting Art Collective and coordinator for this year’s walk.
The groups said that each year, photographers and enthusiasts around the world simultaneously go out with their cameras and meet up at a designated location in their town to walk around and take photographs, socialize, and make new friends.

Capturing life’s images, fleeting moments in Gubat
“Gubat town is chosen as the route for this year’s Photowalk. The concept of a Photowalk is simple. Photo Walks are created by Walk Leaders in cities all over the world. Walkers meet up at a pre-designated location to spend a few hours socializing, capturing images featuring culture, places, destinations, historical landmarks and sharing with like-minded people. At the end of the Photowalk, participants will be able to share their images and experiences through social media,” said Allan Abrigo, the photowalk leader for this year and one of the co-founders of Kurit-Lagting Art Collective.
“Participants will assemble outside the San Antonio de Padua Parish before traversing the barangays of Luna Candol, Balud Del Sur and Norte, Cota na Daco and portions of Cogon, Gubat, Sorsogon. The planned route will showcase the environment, historical landmarks, traditions, culture and practices of Gubat communities that will be captured and documented by the participants composed of photography hobbyists, amateurs, and professionals who will take part in the said event,” said Totep Perez of the Sorsogon Arts Council and the Concerned Artists of the Philippines Bicol Chapter.
“In addition to the event, photo walkers will be able to upload their favorite picture to our popular Photo Walk contest for a chance to win prizes from industry related sponsors. We will have 1 walker grand prize winner, 1 leader grand prize winner, and 10 finalists to be selected by Scott Kelby himself. Prizes have not been officially announced yet but could contain a camera, software licenses and membership, up to $750 worth of industry gift cards, camera bags & more!,” he added.

Movers behind the Photowalk
The Kurit-Lagting is a collective artistic collaboration of Bicolano artists from Sorsogon, Albay, Catanduanes, Masbate and Camarines provinces with art advocacies on human rights and the environment.
The Art Collective is a member of the Sorsogon Arts Council and the Concerned Artists of the Philippines Bicol Chapter.
The Sorsogon Arts Council (SAC) is a local body of Sorsoganon artists founded by the late writer, Reynaldo Jamoralin. SAC advocates for indigenous, regional and Filipino artistic talents and the enhancement, development and promotion of Filipino culture.
The Concerned Artists of the Philippines – Bicol Chapter (CAP-Bicol) is one of CAP’s newest chapters formed in October 2020, which is composed of artists, musicians, writers, filmmakers, and cultural workers from various disciplines that work toward a nationalist, people-oriented art and culture.
One of CAP’s founders was Lino Brocka, a National Artist for Film who was born in Sorsogon.
