Bicolano singer-songwriters gather for Bicol Pop

Inspired by the advocacy of homegrown singer-songwriters and music producers, Casa sa Baybay, in partnership with Musika Publiko’s Bicol Pop initiative, is hosting their first ever PaDaBaKa: Palaad, Dagat, Bagong Musika, and Kape on December 11, 2022, in this unique coffee bar and hostel by the beach in Brgy. Dolo, San Jose, Camarines Sur.

With the objective of supporting Bicol’s music producers in creating songs for the local audience, PaDaBaKa is the first in a series of collaborations with Musika Publiko for Bicol Pop.

Performances feature San Jose and Partido district singer-songwriters: Carmela Dizon, Marl Amador, Puto Polillo, Ched Valencia. Joining them from Naga City and other parts of Camarines Sur are Raquezha, Maug, and award-winning singer-songwriter Karl Ramirez with Kilyáb.

Recently, the local government, under the leadership of Mayor Jerold Pena, signed an ordinance putting the focus on arts, culture, and tourism by creating a council. This was authored and led by Councilor Bob Clutario.

PaDaBaKa is an event in sync with this objective of boosting the arts and culture community. The evening will also mark the launch of Mukna, a local initiative aimed at inspiring San Jose’s youth to pursue songwriting and music production. The event also includes a portion for open-mic performances.

Admission is free. Since the venue is partly outdoors, the organizers ask participants to come with their backpacks or camping chairs.
