Bicol women groups launch protest march in Albay on International Women’s Day

Gabriela-Bicol led the protest action yesterday, March 8, in front of Albay Provincial Capitol to mark the International Women’s Day.

Various progressive groups stressed their call on the release of political prisoners in Bicol region, including the release of Ramon Rescovilla of Condor Piston Bicol and Elwin Mangampo of Lambat Bicol.

Early morning on same day, Organisasyon ng Magsasaka sa Albay (OMA) reported one of their members, Henry Palaje, was arrested by elements of PNP and CIDG.

According to Nica Ombao, Gabriela Women’s Partylist regional coordinator, they continue to fight against abuses, not only at home, but also against the repression of the Duterte Administration.

Peasant women were also present on the protest action.

They wanted security of livelihood and good quality of life, but being oppressed by the laws, neoliberal programs and policies implemented by the Duterte government, according to Kilusang Magbubukid ng Bicol (KMB).
