Poblacion, Castillla, Sorsogon – The barangay council of Poblacion Castilla will forward an appeal to the Department of Tourism in their intention to help the Gawad Kalinga community of the barangay to revive the once flourishing Nasipit River Cruise.
The GK community in December of 2017 launched the river cruise as a livelihood project that attracted domestic tourist but failed to sustain the program. Now what remains of the flourishing livelihood are but photos.
Nasipit River Cruise is the first tourism venture of a GK community that caught the attention of travel tour business that because of its location a promotional video was made in 2019. That same year the community started mangrove farming.
On daytime the majestic Mayon volcano and Mount Bulusan are sights of wonder and night cruise one enjoys tiny glows of firefly massed in thousand. The river once offered sports and recreation by kayaking and to enjoy the leisurely cruise on its floating flatform or “balsa.”
The “Harong Pagkamoot” the symbolic name of GK community residents previously resides in high-risk areas of Poblacion Castilla. The opportunity to empower themselves is for government agency to sustain their income generating project which is the Nasipit River Cruise.
It has the potential to become a pristine eco-tourism site if given the necessary assistance as the council prepares to forward its appeal by way of a resolution.
