ASF threatens hog raiser in Sta. Magdalena town

STA. MAGDALENA, Sorsogon – The first case of African Swine Fever (ASF) was detected at Sitio Lawigan, San Rafael of this town was confirmed by the local agriculture office prompting Mayor Eddie Lozano issuance of an executive order prohibiting the selling of locally raised hogs outside of the town.

The mayor dismisses the fear of backyard piggery owners that pigs will be slaughtered or to be burn. This is a piece of wrong information according to him. But if your area is within the 500-meter radius of a confirmed ASF case the method will be applied as recommended by our agriculture office.

With the confirmed case local officials are appealing for a common effort in maintaining a hygienic pen feeding with leftover foods be avoided and regular disinfection should be done. It was on notice that those affected by ASF should not be slaughtered for income purposes. I BicolExpress.News
