The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) has announced of another premium hike by next year
According to Philhealth Senior Manager Rey Baleña, the state insurer will be implementing a 4.5% increase in premium contributions in 2023.
Baleña said that the hike will help PhilHealth fulfill its mandate to implement the government’s health care program under the Universal Health Care Act of 2008. . .
The senior PhilHealth official explained that the additional contributions would help sustain the current level of benefits enjoyed by PhilHealth members.
Under Republic Act No. 11223, or the Universal Health Care Act of 2008, it provides for the premium increase of 4.5% in 2023 from 4% this year.
“If we get sick and require hospitalization, even if we don’t want to, [our contributions] help us a lot. They will pay for a big chunk of our medical expenses,” Baleña added.
PhilHealth premium contributions are collected from those earning at least P10, 000 monthly.
