After six trials by the Philippine COVID-19 Living Clinical Practice Guidelines Reviewer to evaluate Ivermectin as a potential drug to treat the COVID-19 virus it was found out that it has no potential effect to lessen the risk of infection to a person with a mild and severe case of COVID-19. It was not recommended as a drug against the pandemic.
The FDA said that Ivermectin is also registered in the country as a topical remedy for skin suffering from rosacea and head lice with a prescription from a licensed doctor. It is also registered for use among animals by way of injection and oral solution to stop the heartworm disease to eradicate the inner and outer animal parasites but must be prescribed by a licensed veterinarian.
Any other use of Ivermectin especially as an alternate drug to treat COVID-19 is discouraged by the FDA and DOH-Bicol CHD.
