Six (6) died and thirteen (13) were injured in a collision between a passenger jeep and a ten-wheeler truck in Barangay San Rafael, Castilla, Sorsogon, Friday afternoon January 27, 2023.
The police report of Castilla MPS stated that the passenger jeepney(EVF 866) driven by a 53-year-old resident of Sorsogon City identified as Rodolfo Anoevo Licup, was bound to Sorsogon City, while the Isuzu Wing Truck(CBN 1317) bound to Legazpi City driven by Marlon De Leon Lorenzo of Brgy. San Vicente, Gapan City, Nueva Ecija time of the vehicular accident. The accident occurred at around 3 in the afternoon of January 27, 2023 as recorded by the MPS.
At the scene of the accident Licup avoided the pothole causing him to lose control of the steering wheel thereby colliding with the incoming truck at the curve line of the highway in San Rafael, Castilla.
Castilla MPS released the name of the six dead passengers; 45-year-old Maribel Lomerio Pardillo of Cumadcad Castilla, Karen Jamisola Maquinana both Public School Teacher age 45 of Talisay, Sorsogon City, 19-year-old Eric Dino Deonida of San Roque Bacon Sorsogon City, Amparo Canadia Bajaro, Senior Citizen of San Isidro, Castilla. A 58-year-old resident of Buenvista, Castilla Heidy Locsin Alba is another fatality and a minor.
The thirteen (13) injured passengers who are recovering at the hospital are; Merly Abarietos, Antonio Marco, 65 years old, resident of Brgy. Bucal-Bucalan, Sorsogon City; Muhammad Aiman, 35 years old, resident of Brgy. Cumadcad, Castilla, Sorsogon; Arjay Desuyo, 23 years old; Richele Lasay Destura, 45 years old, resident of Brgy. Balogo, Sorsogon City; Nida Habulan Peralta, 45 years old, resident of Brgy. San Isidro, Castilla, Sorsogon; Rose Dame E Diesta, 23 years old, resident of Brgy. Cumadcad, Castilla, Sorsogon; John Juris Valle, 20 years old, resident of Brgy. San Rafael, Castilla, Sorsogon; April Habana Gojo, 20 years old, resident of Biriran, Juban, Sorsogon; Erica Joy Carillo, 22 years old resident of Brgy. Pangpang, Sorsogon City; Alia Desonia, 19 years old, resident of Brgy. Sampaloc, Sorsogon City and two other minors.
The driver of the passenger jeepney is currently under hospital arrest while the truck driver is in the custody of the Castilla Municipal Police Station for proper documentation and disposition.
The accident involved multiple homicides, damage to property and physical injuries.
