Bicol artists group condemned the killing of broadcaster Percy Lapid
Members of the Concerned Artists of the Philippines – Bicol (CAP-Bicol) Chapter joined the nation in condemning, and seeking justice for the brutal killing of broadcaster Percival Mabasa, known as Percy Lapid.
Lapid was just fulfilling his duty to speak truth and uphold freedom of expression, said CAP-Bicol.
“We call for justice in the face of these continuing attacks against the journalists and media outlets,” CAP-Bicol aired its sentiment.
“Violence and the abuse of power do not have a place in our communities. This on-going crackdown and intensified attacks to the press has reached a disturbing level. This just demonstrates the degree in which impunity has been emboldened under Marcos’ administration,” CAP-Bicol declared, in a public statement.
CAP-Bicol said it stands together with media, civil society organizations, and fellow artists in calling on the State authorities to protect the safety of media workers, and uphold our democratic rights to freedom of expression and freedom of the press.
