The never ending congestion of vehicles bound to Visayas at Matnog port with a waiting time of 2 to 3 days is now a bygone dilemma for commuters and transport vehicles due to the Blue Lane program of the provincial government of Sorsogon.
The program is integral with the development initiative under the 7K formula that will help fast track the movement of commuters, goods and service’s to and from Sorsogon to Visayas and Mindanao.
Proving that discipline is key to progress and cooperation is vital to development, lead agencies operating in the port of Matnog after a dialog with provincial leaders and stakeholders approved the implementation of the Blue Lane concept that set aside the “favored status system” overhauling the practice.
Notable was the strict observance of the timetable as indicated in the Certificate of Convenience of RoRo vessels flying the port not like before as a means to decline the Blue lane.
For stranded traveler’s convenience a soup kitchen is available and rest rooms. The lane is manned by a composite team of local authorities, provincial employees to make sure that all should be compliant.
In another development DPWH Regional Director Virgilio Eduarte hailed the fast track approach of the province to hasten the transshipment point of Sorsogon to Visayas and Mindanao saying that it is a boon to the province economy and also lauded the public work efforts of provincial leaders that transformed the image of Sorsogon that other Bicol provinces should follow.
