Thursday, October 7, 2021 will be the last operation of Legazpi City Airport to give way for the operation of a much bigger international airport in nearby Daraga, only several minutes drive.
The bigger new airport, Bicol International Airport (BIA), will start operation starting Thursday.
This was announced by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
With these new airport operation, all flights to Legazpi Airport starting Friday, October 8, will be routed to BIA in Barangay Alobo, Daraga, Albay.
Passengers are advised not to worry that BIA is far from Legazpi City because there are service vehicles to the airport and back to downtown Daraga.
On Thursday, the first domestic flight will fly to BIA for the formal start of its commercial operations.
Meanwhile, on November 7, BIA will handle its first international flight operations.
In a related development, the Local Government of Daraga was in full swing of preparations when it sent personnel from the Municipal Engineering Office, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, Municipal Agriculture Services Office and General Services Office to beautify the outside and inside of the airport.
They planted palm trees, leveled the grounds and cleaned uo the outside and inside of the buildings.
The formal opening of BIA is on Thursday which President Rodrigo Duterte will attend, with Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade.
