GUBAT, Sorsogon – When Vea Estrellado started surfing at age 9 she never dreamed of competing internationally. Surfing the waves of Lola Sayong eco-friendly surf camp, this native of Gubat made a national mark by besting seasoned surfers from Siargao, Baler and La Union that established her name in national surfing consciousness.
Now she will be competing for the 2021 Olympic Qualifiers World Surfing Games happening on the third week of May in Surf City El Sunzal, El Salvador together with her Pilipinas Surfing Shortboard Team from Siargao, La Union and Australia.
The 17 year old surf sensation took her first win with a streak that landed her in the top 3 of the national ranking for longboard and shortboard surfing.
The qualifying event at El Salvador is a chance for Team Pilipinas to be included among the competitors for the event for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic. The team is even in numbers 3 each for men and women but they trained individually because of the pandemic Vea is training at Lola Sayong where she started conquering the waves with the help of coaches that focuses on strength, endurance, core, balance. Swimming, underwater breathing.
Since this is her first international stint, she is set to undergo personality development for her to amply communicate with her teammates, coaches and other competitors.
