Remembering the past is a walk of history.
As we await the festive month of October for another spectacular edition of Kasanggayahan 2023 and cross our fingers for who among the aspiring ladies yet to be shortlisted as official candidates, a bit of throwback to the year 1974 when the late Sorsogon Governor Juan Frivaldo re-launch Kasanggayahan Festival an epic event for the 80th founding anniversary of Sorsogon as a province.
Then the town of Bacon boasted of beautiful and talented ladies that it thrust Daisy De Vera Diño into the limelight as its representative for the beauty contest. She was eventually crowned as the first Kasanggayahan Queen at age 19 besting 14 other beauties.
It was an unexpected feat that her sense of fashion and dream to become a model gave her the crown as Ms. Kasanggayahan ’74.’
But her feat twenty-four years later was duplicated by her daughter Dawne. In 1998 she was also crowned Kasanggayahan Festival Queen becoming the only mother and daughter who bested their fields in the history of the Ms. Kasanggayahan Beauty Pageant.
Queen Daisy De Vera Diño-Javier is now residing in Canada while Queen Dawne Diño Javier-Limjoco resides in Puerto Rico USA.
