Alarmed over the spike of Covid-19 cases in Tinambac, Camarines Sur, town Councilor Oming Ababan Velarde urged the Sangguniang Bayan, through a motion manifested Monday at the SB plenary, to pass a resolution for the procurement of Covid-19 vaccines.

“These are challenging times for us,” said Councilor Velarde.

“The rise of Covid-19 cases reminds us once again of the importance of implementing health and safety protocols, more importantly, the need to provide vaccines and encourage our constituents to willingly accept vaccination,” he said.

As of June 9, 2021, there are 23 active cases out of the 91 total confirmed Covid-19 cases in the town, according to Tinambac Municipal Epidemiology Surveillance Unit.

“I would like to move for the Sangguniang Bayan of Tinambac to pass a resolution urging the LGU to procure vaccines for those who need it most in our population,” Councilor Velarde declared.

“In doing so, Tinambac will put itself in the map as one of those who prefer to be more pro-active in its vaccination program by being a step ahead in the right direction,” he said.

LGU-Tinambac, in its offical statement on May 21, 2021, reported that only 578 individuals, cutting across the categories of A1 to A4, were vaccinated against Covid-19.

This is a mere percentage of the population of Tinambac which is at 67,572 people, and 13,277 households, according to the 2015 Census.
