The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) condemned the sexual abuse done against four teachers in broad daylight of August 9, 2022, inside a school in Ocampo, Camarines Sur.
The school is at Barangay New Moriones, Ocampo, twenty (20) minutes walking distance from an Army-Cafgu military camp in adjacent Barangay Mabalodbalod, Tigaon.
According to reports, a hooded man with a gun held-up the 4 teachers while they were eating lunch inside a room, took their cellphones, and sexually violated them.
The teachers group demanded that the Department of Education (DepEd) provide additional funds to hire security personnel for every public school to ensure safety of teachers, students, and school premises.
“We demand that the culprits be swiftly arrested and meted with punishment so that justice may be served to our colleagues who have been attacked by armed perpetrators and were traumatized by the incident,” said ACT, in a public statement.
Police said they identified one suspect, but no arrest was made pending the outcome of the investigation.
Meanwhile, DepEd announced that it will provide the 4 victims monetary assistance and psychosocial help, while condemning the sexual violence done to the victims.
DepEd said it is working out with the Department of Interior and Local Government and Department of Budget and Management to use the Special Education Fund to hire at least one security personnel per school, and for the repair and construction of school buildings.
