Public cautioned against illegal tourist promoters in Sorsogon

In the aftermath of the drowning incident in the waters of Matnog involving a domestic tourist from Pasay City the Sorsogon Provincial Tourism Culture and Arts Office and the Municipal Tourism Culture and Arts Office of Matnog jointly condemns and are saddened by the tragedy as it does not tolerate undocumented island hopping activities.

In a statement, the provincial tourism office extends its sympathies to the family and friends of the victim as it laments the operations of illegal boat operators taking advantage of the peak season to visit and marvel at the almost pink beaches of the Subic island of the town.

It further said that those responsible will be held liable for the unfortunate incident as it will work closely with authorities to put an end to the illegal trade adding that responsible tourism does not tolerate undocumented sea or land travel to tourist destinations of the province.

The incident is a reminder to vacationers, tourists and adventure seekers to avoid dealing with illegal tour operators for the risk may end up with a dead body urging instead to properly register with duty personnel of respective local government tourism office before venturing out to their destinations to enjoy the wonders of Sorsogon.

The incident comes at the time that Sorsogon recently launched its tourism slogan “Beautiful Sorsogon” which promotes its tourism map with a conscious responsibility for the safety and well-being of visitors called under the Tourism Code.

It continues to implement measures and review standards geared to uphold responsible tourism practices. It is also calling for the support of the public and stakeholders for the gains of the province’s tourism efforts to be a welcoming standard for visitors.
