MANILA, Philipines – The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines condemns the killing of John Heredia, municipal administrator of Pilar, Capiz.
It is calling a thorough investigation and a swift resolution of the case.
Heredia is a long-time member and officer of NUJP as chair of the Capiz Chapter before entering government service and was no longer in the media when killed. NUJP said that the killing was a symptom of the culture of impunity in the Philippines.
It will be recalled that his wife Attorney Criselda Azarcon Heredia is a human rights lawyer and an anti-mining advocate who was a target of an ambush on September 23, 2019she is also a member of the National Union of Peoples Lawyers In Panay, has been red-tagged in a poster in Iloilo prior to the attack.
