OFW from Bicol, positive of Covid-19 Indian variant, recovers

Department of Health (DOH) on its Tuesday briefing said one of the returning OFWs who were positive of Indian coronavirus variant, and had recovered, is now in the Bicol Region.

The said patient was discharged from quarantine after recovering and was sent home to Bicol, however his identity and home province was not revealed.

DOH said the Bicolano patient was 58 years old male who arrived from UAE on April 19 and was placed in isolation at Clark, Pampanga.

He was released on May 6 when he recovered from Covid 19.

This came about when the country disclosed of its first two positive cases of B.1.617 coronavirus variant that was first discovered in India.

“We are informing the public that we have our first two cases of this variant,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire disclosed in a briefing Tuesday.

The second case, 37 years old male arrived from Oman on April 10.

He was discharged from isolation on April 26 after recovering, and is now at Soccssargen.

This Monday, the B.1.617 is the fourth coronavirus variant tagged as “variant of concern” by the World Health Organization.

Other variants are the variants from United Kingdom (B.1.1.7), South Africa (B.1.351), and Brazil (P.1).

DOH Bicol has no statement about this new variant case.
