Bicol University in Legazpi warns college applicants on “fake news chat group”

Bicol University (BU) in Legazpi City, Albay Province, warns hopeful college entrance applicants from following a chat group in Facebook, that allegedly churns out “unofficial, malicious news” about the university’s system for screening applicants who want to enter college.

In a post on Monday, July 5, BU warns “It has come to our attention that a ‘BUCESS Applicants Facebook Group,’ is allegedly circulating unverified and malicious information about the BUCESS.”

BUCESS is a BOR- approved Interim Policy for screening incoming Bicol University Freshmen for School Year 2021 – 2022.

The warning mentioned the names of three (3) persons as moderators/ admins of the unauthorized chat group, “BUCESS Applicants Facebook Group”.

But, this online media Bicol Express News withheld their names, believing they are still minors.

BU, in its advisory said: “The public is hereby informed that the Office of Admissions has not authorized any individual, organization, entity or online group to post any announcement on the BUCESS, and the other screening processes currently being undertaken for Senior High School, High School and Kindergarten.”

“In particular, BUCESS applicants are advised to wait for the OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT of BUCESS Results for SY 2021 – 2022 from this office on or before July 20, 2021.”

“In this time of pandemic, we appeal to all concerned to stay reasonable and wait patiently, until such time that the thorough review process is completed, and that the release of BUCESS results is sanctioned by the Office of the Bicol University President,” said Dr. Hennie Pama- Lomibao, RGC Dean of Admissions, who issued the warning advisory.
