Golden years in God’s service for Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana

The Apostolic Nuncio of Pope Francis to Israel Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana recently celebrated his sacerdotal golden jubilee as servant leader of the catholic church.

Now 72, the archbishop was ordained by the late Archbishop Teofisto Alberto in 1972 from then on never failed to thank God and continued his studies at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, earning his Doctor Juris utriusque – a combined law degree in both civil and canon law.

Entering the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1984 after completing his studies at Ecclesiastical Academy, he was posted as a papal representative in Ghana, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Lebanon, Hungary and Taiwan.

It was Pope John Paul II who appointed him as apostolic nuncio to Papua New Guinea in 2001 and was consecrated bishop on January 6, 2022, at St. Peter’s Basilica and was entrusted to lead the nunciature in the Solomon Island.

Appointed by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006 as the apostolic nuncio in Pakistan, by 2010 he was transferred to the Democratic Republic of Congo as his other assignments.

Then Pope Francis appointed him as the papal nuncio to Australia in 2015 before his post in Israel in June 2021.

The Archbishop is a native son of Naga city.
