Ex-army man shot dead in gun buy-bust in Albay

An ex-army in Albay province was killed early Sunday morning, October 15 by police in a gun buy- bust that failed to capture him alive after a shoot-out.

Killed was Cyruz Nicol Nieva, (Ex- Phil. Army) legal age, married, unemployed, resident of P- 5, Sitio Tula-T Tula, Brgy. Baligang, Camalig, Albay.

Camalig MPS personnel led by PMAJ Al Aaron A Llagas, together with RID5, RSOU5; 2nd Albay PMFC; 1st Albay PMFC; PIU-Albay PPO; 505th MC; TSC RMFB5; and CIDG Albay – PSU, conducted the gun-buy bust operation against the suspect who was the newly Identified leader of “Llames Robbery Group”.

According to police narrative, the police poseur buyer was able to transact one (1) piece short firearm cal. 45 pistol from the suspect in consideration of PHP 14,000.00 buy-bust money (composed of one (1) genuine PHP 1,000 bill and thirteen (13) PHP 1,000 boodle money).

Upon meeting up, the poseur-buyer gave the money to the suspect, but before giving the poseur-buyer the firearm, the suspect suddenly cocked the firearm and fired toward the poseur-buyer, and ran at the grassy portion.

Luckily, the poseur-buyer was not hit.

The other operatives, serving as back-up and perimeter security, rushed towards the suspect, ensuing an exchange of gunshots.

The suspect sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to MHO Camalig for immediate medical attention, however, he was declared Dead On Arrival by the attending physician Dra. Jennifer Lapuz.

The Camalig MPS requested for the SOCO team to process the crime scene.
