Australian gets 129 years in PH prison for series of child sexual abuse

A Cagayan De Oro court had sentence an Australian nationality for up to 129 years in Philippine jail for the series of child sexual abuse who’s the youngest victim was an 18-month old child.

Peter Gerard Scully was sentenced last Wednesday along with his Filipina girlfriend Lovely Margallo, who also received 129 years in prison, while two of their accomplices were given more than 9 years jail time.

Scully’s conviction was his second who already serving a life sentence for rape and trafficking of girls.

“I hope this sends a very strong message to all abusers. All human traffickers that crime does not pay” said Cagayan De Oro prosecutor Merlynn Barola-Uy on the sentence of Scully and his accomplices.

Experts warned that the Philippines has become a global hotspot for child exploitation which is helped by poverty, English fluency and high internet connectivity in the country.

Scully, Margallo and their two accomplices have been charged with 60 offences including trafficking, child pornography, child abuse and rape.
